Buena Park Preservation Alliance:

Building meaningful connections between community members, government agencies, social service organizations and non-profit groups to promote safe, beautiful and accessible spaces for every person in Chicago.

“The rising tide lifts all boats.”

-John F. Kennedy

History

In the summer of 2023 the park on Marine Drive in Chicago (between Irving Park Road and Buena Avenue) experienced unprecedented abuse. Neighbors witnessed public drug usage, alcohol consumption, human waste and numerous illegal and unsafe conditions in public park space. A small group of neighbors reached out to our elected officials asking for help. In return we only received excuses and complacency.

Through community outreach, our grass root efforts grew into a larger email campaign involving neighbors living throughout Buena Park and beyond. We emailed and called our elected officials until the park was cleaned up and the debris and furniture removed. Recognizing the huge effort it took to yield a small victory, we knew a focused and organized group was needed.

Buena Park Preservation Alliance (BPPA) was created to mobilize community members to create positive change in our parks, neighborhoods and broader city.

Fostering Connections

Buena Park Preservation Alliance encourages all community members to play an active role in shaping their park and public spaces. Below is the contact information for your elected officials and government agencies in Buena Park, Lakeview and the 46th Ward. Please email them often to encourage their intervention in making our parks clean, safe and accessible for all.
